Technology that works for every student.

I’m Marcel Verstraete, an assistive technology consultant specializing in students with physical and orthopedic impairments, from birth to age 26, helping them access the curriculum.

About

I support students at every stage, from early intervention through K–12 and on to post-secondary transition, working alongside families, teachers, and IEP teams to find, trial, and implement the tools that help each student access the curriculum.

At home I answer to three cats: Carrot, Pickle, and Cheddar. They supervise most of my paperwork.

What I do

Assistive technology that helps students with physical and orthopedic impairments access the curriculum. I work with school teams at every step, from the first question to tools that stay in use.

  • AT consideration and evaluation

Working through AT consideration and decision-making with the IEP team: what the student needs to access the curriculum, and which tools are worth a closer look.

  • Trials of alternative access

Trials of alternative access methods like switch use and eye gaze, so decisions rest on what actually worked for the student.

  • Implementation planning and data collection

A plan the team can follow day to day, with data collection that shows whether the tools are helping.

  • Training and coaching

Training and coaching that build district capacity, so the school team can keep the work going on its own.
